Statistical Analysis Practice

In our view, statistical software is one of the most underused categories of software. One reason historically was that the statistical software was scientist-friendly, but not business-friendly. But modern statistical software such as SPSS 10 is far better. Still, barriers exist, largely because doing statistical analysis is fundamentally multi-disciplinary. Ideally you wear a lot of hats:

  • Statistician/mathematician (so you know what ANOVA is)
  • Data modeler (so you can design the data structures you need)
  • Database administrator (so you can manage the database day to day)
  • Data analyst (so you can write the SQL to prepare the data)
  • Programmer (so you can automate the processing)
  • Data visualization specialist (so you can present the results graphically --
plots using "****" in place of bars are out)
  • Technical writer (so you can write up the results for a broader audience)
  • Trainer (so you can communicate the results in meetings)
  • Business analyst (so you understand the point of all of the above)

Needless to say, no one person can do all of that. But the right team can pull it off. Working together with you, we can create one of those rare statistical analysis teams that can give you a competitive edge (or at least more hats).
