Simulation PracticeSimulation is most valuable when the it is expensive, impractical, or impossible to test theories directly in the "real" world. Even when it is possible to conduct real tests, one can often learn more from the hundreds or thousands of runs of an experiment that one can inexpensively perform using simulations. Our experience includes creating the simulation module for the Inventory Optimization Tool that we created in partnership with Mercer Management Consulting (see our Optimization Practice). We have also created approximately 20 building blocks for Extend, a simulation program published by Imagine That! These blocks allow Extend simulation model builders to easily connect their models to databases, making the models much more scalable, and allowing them to be easily integrated with external databases and applications. |
